Never Say Never!!

So, I get home from vacation to find this little pretty sitting in my stack of mail!!! I immediately sat down to peruse the pages of this wonderful book. Not only is it filled with beautiful quilts, but Victoria tells her story through them. It is a real treat to read.

It was my privilege to quilt one of the pieces in the book. Last year, right before Christmas she sent me "Remembering Christmas Past".  I felt like I had a small glimpse into Victoria's childhood Christmas memories.

So you ask, why did I name this post "Never Say Never"? Well, I have been quilting professionally for 15 years, and I thought I had my share of double wedding rings. Early in my career I thought I might make one, but after quilting so many I changed my mind. Well, I changed my mind again!! After seeing these beautiful quilts, I now want to make one of my own. I've already purchased the focus fabric. Wait until you see it!!! Whooo Hooo!!!

Click on the picture of "Double Wedding Ring Quilts Traditions Made Modern" and it will take you right to Amazon. If you prefer, you can buy it directly from Victoria. She may even autograph it for you!

There is also a feature story in Best Traditions with a Twist 2015 published by Quilter's Newsletter. You can read about Victoria, and her quilts there.

#manquilter & GenerationQ Magazine

One of my favorite things is watching my children do the things they love. Another one of my favorite things is to be involved with them.

My oldest, Dan, is an architect.  He is also a quilt designer. It kind of goes hand in hand. We started working together after he graduated from college. I have a computerized quilting machine, and with his knowledge of CAD, he began designing quilting patterns for me. He also began designing and making quilts. When he left for Seattle, he took my Bernina Patchwork 140 with him. (Oh, don't feel sorry for me, it gave me an excuse to buy a new one!!!)

One day he sends me CAD drawings of three quilts, each made with one quilt block. I was impressed! I sent him a message back, and told him he should send this in to a quilting magazine, and that was the beginning of his quilting career. His first quilt to be published is called ModSquare Revolution. It's in the summer 2014 issue of Modern Quilts Unlimited.

Well, he's done it again!! I sent him a jelly roll, (what a gift for your son, right?!), and he came up with a quilt that he calls "Candy Stripe". This one has been published in the Jan/Feb 2015 issue of Generation Q Magazine.

It's so great to be able to share something that you love, with a special someone that you love!!

Blessings!

Linda

Winter Getaway

It has been an amazing week!! The man and I were able to go on a winter getaway (with six of our friends)!! It was sorely needed. It has been so cold here, and we needed to thaw our bones. We flew into Georgetown, Bahamas on Exuma Island. Can you feel the sunshine?

The week was filled with kayaking, paddle boarding, snorkeling, walking, and hanging at the beach. Not to mention food and spirits! Thurday we hired Captain Robert from Robert's Island Adventures to give us a tour of some of the Cays around Exuma. If you ever find yourself there, I highly recommend his tour. Our first stop was Leaf Cay, owned by Nicolas Cage. There we met up with a few iguanas.

There is a sculpture of a concert grand piano with a mermaid that belongs to David Copperfield. It sits at the bottom of the waters at Musha Cay.

Before we left I purchased a camera that I could use underwater. Didn't think it was a good idea to take my 40D. I had lots of fun using it. Here is my favorite picture:

God sure has created some amazing creatures for us to enjoy!

Have a great day!! Don't forget to count your blessings!!

Focus

So, this year I was thinking about what my new year's resolutions should be, and of course, it's always the same 'ole same 'ole, lose weight, get organized, simplify, etc. I came upon a couple of blog posts, GetOneWord & (in)courage. The premise is to find your one word, and focus on that word. So I prayed about it, and really didn't want the word to be of my choosing. But human nature tends to get in the way, and I decided to choose abide. I had an uneasy feeling about it, and another word kept coming into sight. Everywhere I read I saw the word "focus". I didn't want that word, I wanted abide. It was not to be.

Honestly, after thinking about it, I do have tendencies to go off and start one project without finishing what I have already started. This year, I'm really going to work on this. There are things around the house that I want to get finished, projects with my quilting business that I need to get finished, and the list goes on.

So rather than setting myself up for failure, I'm going to "focus" on my word. Hopefully, prayerfully that will work!!

I'll keep you posted!!

Have a blessed day!!

Happy New Year!!!

Well, this seems to be one of my favorite posts!!! Seems it's the only one I made all last year!! Good intentions, right?!

Well, anyways, Happy New Year!! I pray this coming year finds you well, and has good things in store for you! We have plenty of plans already in the making, and one of them is to document them here.

My first object for the new year is to memorize scripture. There's nothing like having the sword of the spirit when you're going through a battle. Beth Moore, from Living Proof Ministries has launched her 2015 Siesta Scripture Memory Team, and I have chosen to participate. We will memorize 24 of our favorite scripture verses for the year, two each month. She has a great party planned in Houston in January 2016 to wrap it up. Check out her blog for more details.

The verse I've chosen to memorize for this week is 2 Corinthians 10:3-5

For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.

Yeah, it's a lot, but I'm determined.

Why don't you join me?

See you soon,

Linda
